AM Rathnam has quashed rumours of a delay in the shoot for Thala 56 with a statement that following the Kolkata schedule, 65% of the shooting has been completed. He further confirmed that that the movie is on track for a Diwali release. The Thala 56 team has reportedly returned to Chennai after the Kolkata schedule.

The film will most likely see actor Ajith as a cab driver, and Shruti Haasan as a lawyer. Thala 56 is only the provisional title for the film, and there has been speculation that the movie will be titled ‘Vetti Vilas’.
Shot mainly in parts of Italy and Chennai, Thala 56 is directed by Siruthai Siva, and features Ajith, Shruti Haasan, and Lakshmi Menon in the lead. Music director Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music for the film.
