Lyricist Vairamuthu’s novel Kallikaattu Ithihasam will soon be translated into 23 languages. The novel is about the lives of villagers who had to leave their hometown during the construction of the Vaigai dam in Madurai.
The novel had won the Sahitya Akademi award in 2003. Now, the Sahitya Akademi has decided to bring national recognition to this novel by translating it into 23 languages, including English, Hindi. Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, Kannada and Assamese.
“This move will prove to be a cultural bridge between Tamil and other languages. There will be release functions of these books in each states’ capital” said Vairamuthu.
