A suo moto petition has been filed by producer S Mukanchand Bothra against lyricist Vairamuthu for undermining the “dignity and integrity” of High Court judges during a public speech on September 12. Bothra claims in his petition that Vairamuthu had used derogatory words to refer to judges at the Justice PS Kailasam’s centenary celebrations. According to Bothra, Vairamuthu made comments that “raised doubts about the faith, integrity, purity of judges among the public, especially about judges who are on the verge of retirement”. He further said that Vairamuthu’s words conveyed the impression that by the end of their term, all judges become corrupt.
Variamuthu made the alleged derogatory speech in the presence of the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, Justice SK Kaul, actor Rajinikanth, and former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram. The petition has been admitted by the bench and the hearing will be held shortly.
