Popular musician E Gayathri, Vice Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Music and Fine Arts University, has filed a complaint with the police claiming to have received death threats. According to reports, a group of unidentified people broke into her office at the university, vandalised it, and left behind death threats.
The Tamil Nadu Music and Fine Arts University is located in Raja Annamalai Puram, Chennai. In the early hours of Monday, E Gayathri got a call from the watchman informing her of the incident. She notified the police and arrived at the spot. The police let her in after scanning the place for fingerprints. She found the place to be completely ransacked. She also found her photograph with Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, shredded to pieces with stab marks on her face. The miscreants had left a message that said, ‘your death is in my hands’. The CCTV cameras were destroyed, but E Gayathri confirmed that none of the objects were missing.

While the motive behind the attack is uncertain, the Vice Chancellor believes that this might be an act of retaliation. A few weeks ago, the Vice Chancellor had fired a few members of the staff owing to their indulgence in malpractice. She suspects that they might have carried out this act.
Gayathri told Polimer News that necessary steps will be taken under the guidance of the police.
