Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor will not act in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next – Padmavati. According to a Deccan Chronicle report, the actor, who welcomed his newborn daughter earlier this week, is taking a long paternal leave, thus opting out of the film with Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. The shooting is expected to begin this month.
According to the Deccan Chronicle report, Shahid has not signed the contract. “He had agreed verbally to play Deepika’s husband in Padmavati. So officially, if he decides to extend his paternity leave, he is not really opting out. He never said he was doing the film,”the report quoted sources as saying. The source also revealed that the evident height difference between Shahid and Deepika would make things appear awkward.
Interestingly, Shahid and Ranveer were spotted working out together to get into shape for the film. According to Pinkvilla, Shahid Kapur had also asked for Rs 4 crores more than his usual amount as his fee for the film, in addition to asking for a meatier role to avoid being overshadowed by Ranveer Singh.

While there has not been an official confirmation, Deepika Padukone will reportedly play the role of Rani Padmini and Ranveer Singh will play the role of emperor Alauddin Khilji. Shahid Kapoor was offered the role of Padmini’s husband Raja Raval Ratan Singh. The film is based on a legendary queen of the epic ‘Padmavat’ written by Malik Muhammad Jayasi in 1540 CE. Details of the film were kept low-key, until the official music composer of the film, Shreyas Puranik tweeted the news of her casting on 8 July. The tweet is currently unavailable now but was picked up by several entertainment news-sites such as Pinkvilla.
