Chakri Toleti, whose directorial debut, Unnaipol Oruvan was well-received, seems to be in an experimental mode. The US-based actor-director has now come up with a silent short film…in black-and-white. The 15-minute movie, called Unread, revolves around the life of a young orphan who earns his living by wiping cars; and has to deal with bullies and a corrupt cop.
While the film is silent, we find the use of dialogue cards – similar to a Charlie Chaplin film – quite attractive. Add to this the old-school camera techniques and we are transported right back to the silent era.
Shot over a five-day schedule in Ramoji Rao Film City, the film has been produced by Royal Stag Large Short Films.
Chakri Toleti’s last venture was Billa-II in 2012.
