Leonardo DiCaprio seems to have chalked out the next step in his plan to save the planet from global warming. The Oscar-winning actor, in collaboration with Paramount Pictures and actor-writer Glen Powell, will make a Captain Planet movie.
Powell and writing partner Jono Matt are in talks to pen the screenplay for Paramount who are in talks for the rights to the 1990s cartoon series. The project will be produced by DiCaprio’s Appian Way, which signed a first-look deal with Paramount in March, along with Powell.
Captain Planet and the Planeteers, a TV show that aired from September 1990 to December 1992, is centered on five young people from around the world who fight against environmental evils with the help of Captain Planet, a superhero.
It was reportedly the environmental theme that drew DiCaprio to the project. Recently, he worked in the documentary, Before The Flood which is about the impact of global warming. In the film, DiCaprio travels to five continents, meeting the victims of climate change, world leaders, activists and scientists, exploring solutions to the looming danger.
