Actor Karthi: “Tamil Cinema Doesn’t Have Strong Writers”

Kaashmora may have opened to mixed response at the box office, but the team celebrated the success meet of the Telugu version in Hyderabad anyway. At the event, the film’s lead Karthi confessed that he found bilinguals ‘tough to work on’. The actor said that this was due to a lack of good writers in the Tamil film industry.

“Bilinguals may be easy  for producers, but not for directors and actors. Although the sensibilities of both Telugu and Tamil audiences are the same, each language has to be approached differently. Oopiri (Thozha in Tamil) worked because the Tamil version was treated as a separate entity. We translated the dialogues first and then a fresh draft was made. I had approached director Raju Murugan for the same.”

Baahubali, he said was an exception, due to it’s visual appeal and plot that works for all languages. “It was a visual experience and something new for the audiences. It won’t work for dramas. I am no writer and Tamil cinema doesn’t have strong writers. That’s why I haven’t gone ahead with anything,” he said.
