Balaji Tharaneetharan has revived his ambitious project, Seethakathi, with Vijay Sethupathi as the male lead. A source close to the director told Silverscreen that the film would be a socially relevant one.
Seethakathi was a Tamil scholar and saint in the 1650s. Balaji’s film will not be a biopic on the saint, but will instead talk about the belief systems and values he tried to inculcate in the people.
In 2014, the director had told this reporter that he was busy writing the script for the film. However, Balaji temporarily stalled the project in order to concentrate on Oru Pakka Kadhai with Kalidas and Megha Akash. Although it was launched in 2014, Oru Pakka Kadhai hasn’t yet released.
Meanwhile, Balaji hopes to turn things around with Seethakathi. An official announcement on the film’s revival is expected soon.
