Actor-director Samuthirakani stressed on the importance of making message-oriented films in a Facebook Live session with Tamil daily, Maalaimalar. “A lot of us in this field want to do movies that will mark a message to people. Almost everything we had in mind for the movie has to come out well. Also, if 1000 youngsters try breaking into the industry, very few make it. I have noticed movies like Maanagaram, D16 and it looks easy on the outside for these movies. But, the effort and struggle behind it would be known only if we go the sets or know them personally.”
The 43-year-old is also a part of the sequel to Velayilla Pattathari, that is gearing up to release later this year. “The shoot of the movie is almost done and dubbing process has begun. Even if a Part 2 or a Part 10 happens, I am sure to be a part of it. I enjoy being on the sets with Dhanush as the level of energy is completely different,” he said.
His next as a director is Thondan, that is based on a real-life incident. “The movie revolves around the story of a very simple guy and the story would make people go like, ‘Oh, we saw something like this happening the other day or Oh, we have heard about it.”

The director also revealed that while his previous films were geared more towards the family audience, Thondan will have a message that will appeal to the younger audience as well. “Yes. Thondan definitely is for the younger audience as they would take some points out of it after watching it. Let me not say it is for men, it also caters to women. The movie is sure to change perspectives of a lot of people,” he added.
Samuthirakani hopes to make a movie about the plight of Tamil farmers next. His Thondan releases on April 28.
