Raabta, set to hit screens this Friday, is in the thick of a plagiarism controversy. A legal battle has ensued between the makers of Raabta and that of the Telugu movie, Magadheera. According to a recent report, the legal team of Raabta spent close to five hours in court yesterday to cite the differences in story-line between both movies.
The report further stated the Raabta team as arguing that the climax portions of the movies were totally different. “The makers further pointed out [that] the similarities, even if there were any, were purely on themes that are generic to every film made on reincarnation of two lovers, such as Prem, Hamesha, Om Shanti Om, Kudrat etc. In fact, the makers cited a list of more than 100 films on the theme of reincarnation,” it read.

Ankit Relan, the lawyer representing T-Series for the case wondered “how the Telugu movie makers could jump to conclusions by watching just a two minute trailer”. “We even offered to show the entire film to the plaintiff as far back as on 17th of last month itself, to which the counsels for plaintiff responded only on the midnight of 30th May, 2017, one night before the next hearing, stating that the reply was left lying with the watchman of their building all this while. They rejected the offer to see the film, of course,” he said.
The verdict is expected to be out today. Raabta stars Sushant Singh Rajput, Kriti Sanon and Jim Sarbh, and is directed by Dinesh Vijan.
