Kamal Haasan: “At My Home, Ekavasanam Was Never Respected!”

Actor Kamal Haasan’s television debut has sparked a lot of debate. Needless to say, the trolls did come out in full force as soon as the actor released the show’s poster.

In a recent interview, Kamal opened up about the world of online trolls. “How is it different? MGR, Sivaji Ganesan, M Karunanidhi, Nehru, Gandhi have all been addressed using a singular terminology. They say Sivaji nalla nadikaran or MGR nalla fight panran. In fact, even a three-year-old would say that. I was trained not to say such things right from my childhood. At my house, ekavasanam was never respected,”Kamal said.

Kamal also said that his parents instilled in him a deep respect for fellow human beings. “As a matter of fact, even for fun or while playing games if I was caught addressing a girl as ‘de’, I would be severely punished. None of us called women that way. So much so that there is even a joke in my family — when I was three years old, there was a beggar outside and I said, ‘Pichakaran picha kekaran’. I think there is nothing wrong. I might look at his profession as derogatory, but he is a human being and he deserves respect?” he added.
