Certain Indian distributors are asking Bollywood actor Salman Khan for compensation of up to Rs 40-50 crores, to offset their losses after Tubelight‘s unexpected failure at the box-office, reported Mid-Day, Tubelight, which released on Eid, was expected to rival SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali. However, the collections weren’t even close.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a distributor told the daily, “Salman’s films can collect Rs 100 crore in three days, but this time, ‘Tubelight’ reached the three-figure mark after a week. Single screen owners in small cities have suffered the most, with many incurring losses of over Rs 1 crore. The total loss amounts to Rs 40-50 crore. This is the first time we have faced such a situation. The distributors are hopeful that Salman will pay off their damages.”

Tubelight‘s collections were especially disappointing when compared to earlier hits like Sultan and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. According to an India Today report, the movie made around Rs. 119 crores at the box-office in a time period of 10 days.
Tubelight has been directed by Kabir Khan and also stars Sohail Khan, Zhu Zhu, Matin Rey Thangu and late actor Om Puri. The movie has been bankrolled by Salman Khan himself.
