Shanmugasundaram, Noted Theatre And Film Actor, Dies At 72

Actor Shanmugasundaram, known for his roles in Karnan, Karagattakaaran, died early this morning. He was 72. He had been suffering from poor health.

A family member told Silverscreen that the late actor chose not to let this interfere with his acting commitments, and continued to perform on stage and off.

A noted theatre artiste, Shanmugasundaram was an iconic face in the Tamil film industry. He played character roles with great élan, and often managed to outshine the lead actors. Like he did in Karagattakaaran. 

The Nadigar Sangam has paid rich tributes to Shanmugasundaram through a statement. “An actor like none other, his rise in the industry was purely a result of his own effort and determination. We offer our condolences to his family on his death today. We also mourn the loss of a great actor, the last of his era.”

Shanmugasandaram was last seen in the STR film Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan.
