The Producers’ Council has sought an explanation from the makers of Velaikkaran on the full page advertisement for the film that was seen in leading dailies earlier this week.

Requesting anonymity, a member from the Producers’ Council told Silverscreen, “We have not fined the makers for the ads. Producers have rights to promote their films. But, they have violated an understanding that every producer maintains with the council. If one producer sponsors a huge ad, small producers, who would have commissioned ads on the same day, will not get the same kind of publicity. And when theatre owners prioritise such films, it will land other producers in a difficult situation. ‘I have money, and I will promote my film,’ is what these ads show. But they have to think about others as well. Live and let live is what we say. We have sought an explanation from the makers, and they are yet to respond. It is purely a moral understanding, and has nothing to do with rules. That’s why many films of Ajith and Vijay are not promoted on a grand scale – to make way for other films and producers.”
Velaikaran, bankrolled by 24 AM Studios, is scheduled to hit the screens on September 27. The teaser for the film was released on August 14.
