Doctors across Tamil Nadu are protesting against Mersal by sharing pirated links of the film on social media. Claiming that the film shows them in poor light, they said that they have chosen this silent protest as this would hit the film’s box office collection.
According to a report in The Times Of India, led by the state chapter of the Indian Medical Association, doctors have been sharing links of the movie through social media and have been asking their fellow medical staff to not pay for the movie tickets. “We decided not to approach the media or court for relief. We will only be giving more publicity for the movie. Instead, if we spread the movie links online, it will hit their collections. I hope they will realise then,” Indian Medical Association president Dr TN Ravishankar told TOI.

In one of scenes in the film, which is about corruption in medical practice, Vijay says that people go to private hospitals as government hospitals do not provide good services. “He also says we use this profession only to make money,” Dr Ravishankar said.
The association has also sought support from other organisations, including the Association of Physicians of India, Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society of India and Indian Radiologists and Imaging Association.
