The awards season for Tamil cinema has begun. Winners of the Vikatan Awards were recently announced. Vijay-starrer Mersal took home five awards, including best actor, and the most popular Tamil film of 2017. AR Rahman got the award for music composition for Mersal and Kaatru Veliyidai. Nayanthara got the best actress award and Gopi Nainar received the best director award for Aramm. Shreya Goshal and Anirudh Ravichander got the awards for the best singer.
Vijay Sethupathi bagged the award for the best villain for his role in Vikram Vedha. Aruvi’s lead actor Aditi Balan was given the best debut award. Dream Warrior Pictures was declared the best production house for Aruvi, while the best television programme award went to Bigg Boss Tamil.
The recipient of the Life Time Achievement Award (SS Vasan Award) was given to veteran music composer Ilaiyaraaja.
