Marvel Comics’ latest superhero film, Black Panther, has crossed the $ 1 billion mark at the world-wide box-office. Forbes reports that the movie, with an all-black cast, is now the United States’ ninth highest-grossing film of all time, and had the second-largest four-day domestic opening.
The box-office report of this film is a milestone as it breaks the myth that a film with a predominantly black cast would not sell.
Released on February 16, the film has received praise for its visuals, screenplay, direction, performances, costume design, production merits, soundtrack, and action sequences. Several critics even consider it as one of the best films set in the Marvel Comics Universe and noted its cultural significance.
Starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B Jordan, Lupita NYong’o, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Martin Freeman, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis, the film is about T’Challa (Boseman) who returns home as king of Wakanda but finds his crown challenged. Directed by Ryan Coogler, the film’s screenplay is by Joe Robert Cole, who is best known for his Emmy Award-nominated work for the first season of the true crime anthology television series American Crime Story, titled The People v. O. J. Simpson.

Meanwhile, a Marvel Studios head has even confirmed that the film will have a sequel. While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Kevin Feige said that there will be more in store from Wakanda.
“Nothing specific to reveal, other than to say we absolutely will do that. One of the favorite pastimes at Marvel Studios is sitting around on a Part One and talking and dreaming about what we would do in a Part Two. There have been plenty of those conversations as we were putting together the first Black Panther. We have ideas and a pretty solid direction on where we want to head with the second one,” he said.
