Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attendance at the wedding reception of Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas has met with criticism on social media. The PM was on his way back from a rally in Rajasthan when he attended the reception that was held after a three-day wedding celebration hosted by the couple in Umaid Bhawan Palace of Jodhpur.
@fayedsouza PM chose to attend Priyanka's wedding reception over Navy Day function at Chief of Naval Staff home. Must be put up in media. Shame. Disrespect for fauj.

Have you ever seen any PM of India behave like a small time socialite like Modi does? He was at Virat Anushka wedding reception also and now Priyanka-Nick. Next will be Ambani's kids' weddings!

Somehow unable to sleep knowing an inspector in UP was killed and our PM can heartily laugh at a celebrity’s wedding reception instead of acknowledging and putting an end to this senseless violence over cows.#priorities

Prime minister Modi claims he has not taken 15 minutes of vacation in last 15 years. I want to know attending Priyanka Chopra’s wedding was his National Duty?

A good number of memes trolling Modi’s visit aside, some tweeters expressed their disappointment that Chopra had extended an invitation to the PM.
The most problematic thing about Priyanka is her politics, i.e her Hindu nationalism, her comments on Sikhs or inviting Narendra Modi—the PM of India and also a man accused of Muslim genocide in Gujarat in 2002—to her wedding.

This particular tweeter referred to an article that had earlier appeared in New York Magazine’s The Cut, calling Chopra a ‘global scam artist’, claiming that Chopra had married Jonas to further her career, and that her husband is staring at a “straight life-sentence”. The article was later removed by the magazine following severe backlash on social media.
NOT a hill for us to die on, people.
She has her supporters among Americans.
A D V E R T I S E M E N TIt's the Minorities in India who don't find any ally among the Liberals of America.
And she invited the person who was validated due to his crimes against the Minorities?
Nah! Not a hill to die on.

Meanwhile, in another article titled ‘Priyanka Chopra: The Complicated Feminist’ on CNN, the author explored the actress’s choices in career and life, tallying them against Chopra’s feminist assertions: “…Part of this controversy stems from the fact that Chopra, a powerful actress, is full of all the complications and contradictions that surround ambitious women. She has championed feminism in one breath, but denounced burning bras in others. She has talked about the need for diversity when it comes to her own career in the United States and yet warmly feted the man whose Hindu nationalist party is accused of enabling the transformation of India from a secular to a Hindu state.”
While the article called the kind of feminism that Chopra practices “a fantastic audacity”, – “as not giving a damn”, it also spoke about the way in which The Cut article did not address the “real holes in her feminist story”. Referring to her role in Quantico, as Alex Parrish, an FBI agent who had to capture terrorists who were often foreign, author Rafia Zakaria wrote that it was “a classic case of the American exceptionalist heroine – feminist power wed to the security state.” The role, Zakaria said, “can in fact, be considered a stand-in for the allegiance that America now demands of anyone who wants to make it in this land of Trump and money, a heartfelt rendition of the American mantra that deems state power as always good and threats as (mostly) foreign. The ‘diversity’ actress can cross over to the mainstream if she sings it loud and clear, and Chopra has done just that and been rewarded significantly.”
Chopra, meanwhile, was also called out for the huge display of fireworks at her Udaipur ceremony, having earlier appeared in a campaign by Cipla to ‘skip the crackers’ on Deepavali.
