Partnering with YouTube, A R Rahman recently announced a singing contest ‘ARRived’ to find ‘India’s most authentic voice.’ The show comes as India’s first YouTube Original and the winner gets to sing for Shah Rukh Khan’s new movie Zero.
‘ARRived’ consists of 13 episodes and began airing on November 7. There is no audience poll and the discretion lies solely with the judging panel comprising singers Shaan, Clinton Cerejo, YouTube sensation Vidya Vox and A R Rahman.
The other partner on ‘ARRived’ is Qyuki, a Mumbai based digital media company founded by Rahman along with Shekhar Kapur and Samir Bangara. About the show, Bangara said that while most shows on TV follow a certain pattern by relying heavily on melodrama, soppy back stories and jury clashes for the sake of TRP, ‘ARRived’ is devoid of any of the theatrics and is concerned only about the singing talent of the contestants. While at it, the show will also cater to a young audience, Bangara added in a Rolling Stone report.
Elaborating more on the concept, he said: “The setup is an antithesis of what you see on TV; they [the contestants] will be in their core space where they are at their best.” As the show is about the search for the most authentic voice, the focus is purely on talent. Not being bogged down by potential stardom of the contestants, the show has completely done away with the public voting system.

“Public voting is a nice feeling but it also flushes down the toilet a fantastic voice. Our entire concept is pegged on authenticity; it is a breakaway of what you see on TV, so expect to see a different format and be pleasantly surprised,” he said.
As to what the show has in store for the contestants, he revealed: “You have a winner but what about people who are equally amazing but have just fallen short or not prepared or just maturing as artists? We are going to help them too… We will also be working on scaling up the contestants’ YouTube careers.”
