Ilaiyaraaja will compose the music for composer turned actor Vijay Antony’s next film. This is a surprising departure from the usual for Vijay Antony is known to composes music himself for his films. The film has been titled Tamilarasan, and will be directed by Babu Yogeshwaran of Dass fame.
The actor took to his official twitter handle to announce his next project for which Ilaiyaraja will be composing the music. He also revealed the first look poster of the film. The shoot for the film began yesterday. The poster features a glaring Vijay Antony holding a pistol, and set against a backdrop of demolished buildings; hinting perhaps that this too will be a cop drama.

He was last seen as a straight forward cop ‘Inspector Murugavel’ in Thimiru Pudichavan directed by debutant Ganeshaa. The film received mixed reviews. Vijay Antony’s performance, concept and cinematography was praised, while both the screenplay and sequences were criticised.
Tamilarasan will be produced by S Kousalya Rani under the banner SNS Movies, and RD Rajasekar has been signed on as the cinematographer, while Bhuvan Srinivasan will edit the film. Anal Arasu is choreographing the stunts.

Composers turning actors is not very uncommon, however we have seen that they usually compose the music for their own films. However, veteran composers scoring the music for films of composers-actors is still a new phenomenon. Earlier composer AR Rahman composed for GV Prakash Kumar’s Naachiyaar directed by Bala, and he has also composed for Sarvam Thaala Mayam directed by Rajiv Menon.
Vijay Antony has films like Kolaigaran, a crime thriller directed by director Andrew Louis of Leelai fame. The film will also have Arjun Sarja in an important role, where he is expected to play antagonist in the film. Agni Siragural by Naveen of Moodar Koodam fame besides few more projects. The film will also star Arun Vijay and Shalini Pandey in pivotal roles.
