Uriyadi 2 Censored U; Releases April 5

Vijay Kumar’s Uriyadi 2 has cleared censor with an U certificate, and is gearing up for a worldwide release on April 5. The film is in post-production stage currently. Suriya’s 2D Entertainment, the producers of the movie, announced the news on Twitter recently.

Written and directed by Vijay Kumar, the sequel to the 2016 political thriller stars him in the lead as Lenin Vijay. Newcomer Vismaya, Madras Central fame Sudhakar, Shankar Thas and Abbas are the supporting actors. Cinematography is by Praveen Kumar, and editing by Linu M.

The trailer of the film released last week, promising a thriller similar to Uriyadi which looks at the violence around us, and the events that lead up to people becoming politically involved. Vijay Kumar reportedly said that the sequel will not take off from where the original film concluded, and will look at how politicians use caste for their own gains.

Uriyadi, set in 1990s Trichy, was about about four college students who get embroiled in a political controversy because of a powerful man who wants to start a caste-based party. The film starred debut actors, along with Mime Gopi and Citizen Sivakumar. The film received several awards, including best production at the Norway Film Festival. It was lauded for its humourous moments, engaging screenplay, and the portrayal of caste based violence in south Tamil Nadu districts.

Work on Uriyadi 2 began in September 2018, and the film has been shot in and around Tenkasi. While the 2016 film had music by the Kerala-based band Masala Coffee, Uriyadi 2 has 96-fame Govind Vasantha as the composer. The first single from the album, titled ‘Vaa Vaa Penne’ released earlier this month to positive response from people. The song marks Govind Vasantha’s first collaboration with singer Sid Sriram.

Uriyadi 2 will release along with GV Prakash’s Kuppathu Raja at the box office.
