Amala Paul is set to turn producer with her upcoming film Cadaver which went on floors this Monday. In the movie, the actress will be playing a forensic surgeon, a first-of-its-kind protagonist for Indian cinema, according to the makers.
Cadaver is based on true events and involves a real-life case handled by former Kerala Police surgeon Dr B. Umadathan. Cadaver is being directed by debutant Anoop Panicker.
Talking to DC, the actress said that the script came to her four years ago when it was still under works. “My manager Pradeep was following it up with them and one day he came and told me that he wanted to somehow produce the film, as he didn’t want to let it go out of our hands. I also felt this is the kind of film I wanted to do and believed in. Considering the kind of large canvas, I took a call and decided to bankroll it myself.”
She also added that it was her way of giving back to the industry which she has benefitted from. The actress has plans to produce more pictures backed by young and talented people in future.
The actress was initially worried about her role as the average age of forensic department heads would be around 35 to 40. “I did a lot of research on the internet besides taking hands-on training with a popular doctor and a pathologist. I was travelling with him for few cases and just observed and followed them,” says the actress. She also got into touch with Mr Umadathan and held discussions with him.

Amala Paul also revealed that the script did not have a romantic track in it.” I resolve a complicated murder case and there are a lot of layers in it. And most of my shoots are in mortuaries and hospitals,” she added.
Cadaver is scripted by Abhilash Pillai. Almost 60% of the technicians have been the ones who worked on Ratsasan. Incidentally, Amala Paul had played the female lead in that movie. Cadaver is jointly produced by AJ Films and White Screen Media.
