Vijay Sethupathi Gifts Gomathi Marimuthu Rs 5 Lakh

Actor Vijay Sethupathi has gifted Rs 5 lakh to Gomathi Marimuthu, the athlete from Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu who won the 800m gold at the Asian Athletics Championship last week.

As the actor is busy with shooting in Rajapalayam currently, his fan club members met Gomathi at her home and handed over the cheque. Pictures of this have been doing the rounds on social media.

Recently, actor GV Prakash met Gomathi and shared pictures on social media. He also surprised her with a pair of Nike shoes. Actor Robo Shankar said he would be gifting Rs 1 lakh. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief MK Stalin presented her with Rs 10 lakhs.

Gomathi Marimuthu won gold at the 23rd edition of Asian Athletics Championships held at Doha, Qatar. She surpassed the victory line in 2 minute and 02.70 seconds, making her the first Indian to win gold in this tournament. Gomathi, aged 30 is from Mudikandam near Trichy, has been running and participating in competitions since the age of 20.

In a press meet in Chennai after her return, she spoke about her journey and the support of her father and family. She also said that if there was more support from the state government, she could try and win the Olympics. She has currently qualified for the World Championships.

Meanwhile, actor Vijay Sethupathi recently made his television debut as the host on Sun TV called Namma Ooru Hero. He is known for introducing and speaking about real-life heroes.

On the work front, he has just signed his second Telugu film, after Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, with director by Buchi Babu. Some reports say that he will be seen as the antagonist in the movie. The film introduces newcomer Vaishnav Tej. Music is by Devi Sri Prasad and cinematography by Shamdat Sainudeen. Mythri Movie Makers, the producers of the film, announced the news on Twitter this morning.

Vijay Sethupathi recently wrapped up shooting for Sindhubaadh. He has a project with director Seenu Ramaswamy under production. Shooting for his film with Vijay Chandar is proceeding simultaneously, and Laabam, co-starring Shruti Haasan was announced recently. Marconi Mathai, his first Malayalam film is under production.
