SP Balasubramaniam has officially announced that he is the singer of Rajinikanth’s introduction song in director AR Murugadoss’ Darbar. The song is about the hero’s duties as a police officer, he said at a recent event. The film stars Rajinikanth and Nayanthara in the lead.
SPB was quoted saying: “The intro song comes in a scene where people praise Rajini for something he does, but Rajini stops them saying it’s his duty to safeguard them, there’s no need to heap praises. He says without police clothes he is only a common man like them, and breaks into the song. It has come out really well. My heartiest thanks to composer Anirudh Ravichander, the production team and Superstar.”
SPB has finished recording the song and work on the album is on. SPB has been integral to many Rajinikanth hits with intro songs like ‘Oruvan Oruvan Mudhalali’ from Muthu, ‘Athanda Ithanda’ from Arunachalam, ‘Naan Autokaaran’ from Baasha, and ‘Kadavul Padachan’ from Pokkiri Raja. He sang a few lines for the Petta intro song this year, but it was not a significant portion. Composer Anirudh, who also worked on Petta, decided to bring him back on board for the intro song of Darbar which SPB has entirely sung.
The second schedule for the film is currently on in Mumbai with Nayanthara, AR Murugadoss and others. Jeeva, seen in Dharmadurai, cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh and Sriman are the latest to join the cast.
The director recently also shared a picture of the choreographers at work.

Reports say Rajinikanth has a dual role in the film – as father and son. Nayanthara plays the female lead, and it was earlier said that Keerthy Suresh may also star in the lead. This has not been confirmed yet.
Yogi Babu, Nivetha Thomas, and Bollywood actors Pradeep Kabra, Prateik Babbar, Dalip Tahil and Jatin Sarna are part of the cast. Santosh Sivan is the cinematographer, editing by Sreekar Prasad. The film is bankrolled by Lyca Productions. It is scheduled for a Pongal 2020 release.
