Simbu or Silambarasan began his career with his father T Rajendar’s Uravai Kaatha Kili (1984) when he was one-year-old. He later acted in Enga Veetu Velan which is considered his best movie as a child actor. In 2004, he acted in the super-hit Manmadhan which also marked his debut as a scriptwriter. He has played multiple roles in films, such as director Hari’s family entertainer Kovil (2004), Venkatesh’s super-hit Kuththu (2004), Vallavan (2006), Silambattam (2008), Vinaithaandi Varuvaaya with Trisha in 2010, Vaanam (2011), and his recent release, Mani Ratnam’s multi-starrer Chekka Chivantha Vaanam.
Simbu has been in the middle of many controversies during his career, particularly for his songs. He is a playback singer and lyricist and has worked on ‘The Love Song’, ‘Vote Song’, ‘Trend Song’, the controversial ‘Beep Song’, ‘Naan Yaarunnu Theriyumma’ and more with Yuvan Shankar Raja, GV Prakash, Harris Jayaraj and other composers.
As an actor, he was last seen in a special appearance in the Oviya-starrer 90 ML. He recently returned from London after shedding weight to join director Narthan’s film, co-starring Gautham Karthik. The first schedule of the action-thriller is reportedly complete. The film, inspired by the Kannada film Mufti also directed by Narthan, has one of them playing a cop and the other an underworld don.
Meanwhile, Simbu has completed shoot for Hansika’s Maha, and will soon begin the political thriller Maanadu by Venkat Prabhu. The film, co-starring Kalyani Priyadarshan, was announced back in 2018. The team will reportedly travel to Malaysia for the shoot.
