Kangana Ranaut, the Hindi actor, said on Tuesday that she has filed an FIR after allegedly receiving threats from a man over her posts on the farmers’ protests.

In an Instagram post, Ranaut alleged that she has been “constantly receiving” threats from “disruptive forces” over her recent posts.

“One man from Bathinda openly threatened to kill me. I am not afraid of these types of threats,” she wrote, adding, “I will continue to speak against those who conspire against the country and terrorist forces, be it Naxalites killing innocent jawans, tukde tukde gangs, or terrorists sitting abroad dreaming of forming Khalistan.”

The actor also requested the Punjab government to take action against the alleged culprit. “I have filed an FIR against the man who threatened me. I hope the Punjab government will take action soon,” she wrote in Hindi.

“Democracy is the biggest strength of our country. Any party may form the government but the fundamental right to express ideas has been given to us by the Constitution of Babasaheb Ambedkar. I have never said anything derogatory or hateful about any caste, religion, or group,” she further wrote.

It is notable that an FIR was filed against the actor last week based on a complaint from the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) over her recent remarks that “enticed communal hatred for farmers and Sikhs.”

The complaint against her came after Ranaut, who is already facing multiple FIRs for calling the protesting farmers “terrorists,” took to her Instagram page and wrote, “Khalistani terrorists may be arm twisting the government today. But let’s not forget one woman. The only woman prime minister ne inn ko apni jooti ke neeche crush kiya tha (who crushed them under her shoes).” The actor was referring to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Her post was a reaction to the news of Prime Minister Narendra Modi announcing the decision to repeal the three Farm Bills, following the year-long protests by farmers.

After Ranaut’s remarks, the DSGMC also wrote to President Ram Nath Kovind appealing for the withdrawal of her recently-awarded Padma Shri. “She is deliberately provoking Sikhs with references of [the] indecent 1984 Sikh genocide,” the letter stated.

Ranaut, however, hinted on Tuesday that the threats she is facing are aimed to coincide with the upcoming Punjab elections. “It is a humble request to them not to spread hatred towards anyone for their own political ambitions to win elections,” she said.
