Sherlyn Chopra, the Hindi actor, said in a video on Thursday that she was the first person to give a statement to the Maharashtra Cyber Cell in connection with the Raj Kundra pornography case.
The actor took to Twitter to share the video and speak up on the case for the first time since actor Shilpa Shetty’s husband, businessman Kundra, was arrested on Monday.
Addressing the video to “the journalists and media personalities,” Chopra said, “I would like to inform you all that the first person to give a statement to the investigating team of the Maharashtra Cyber Cell was none other than me.”
“When Maharashtra Cyber Cell had sent me a summons notice, unlike others who say, ‘My heart goes out to Shilpa and her kids,’ I did not go underground and did not go missing. I did not try to flee. In March 2021, I went to the office of Cyber Cell and gave my neutral statement to them,” she added.
However, Chopra did not reveal anything about the case in her video. “Though there is a lot to say on this case, since this matter is sub judice, it would be inappropriate for me to comment on the same,” she said, adding, “I would request all of you, especially journalists, to please get in touch with the Maharashtra Cyber Cell and place your questions before them. You can also request them to share some excerpts from my statement.”
The Mumbai Police arrested Kundra, the owner of Viaan Industries Ltd, on Monday as the “key conspirator” in a case involving pornography.
Kundra and nine others are accused of being involved in making pornographic videos under the pretext of producing short films for OTT platforms.
The Mumbai Crime Branch said on Tuesday that they have so far not found any evidence indicating Shetty had an active role in the case.
According to the Mumbai Police, the investigation had begun in February but they could not arrest Kundra earlier due to lack of evidence.
He has been remanded to police custody until Friday.

Following Kundra’s arrest, actor Poonam Pandey issued an official statement that read: “At this moment, my heart goes out to Shilpa Shetty and her kids. I can’t imagine what she must be going through. So I refuse to use this opportunity to highlight my trauma. The only thing I will add is that I filed a police complaint in 2019 against Raj Kundra and subsequently registered a case at the Hon’ble High Court of Bombay against him for fraud and theft. This matter is sub judice and hence I would prefer to limit my statements. Also, I have full faith in our police and judicial process.”
In her complaint, Pandey had alleged that Kundra and his associates had been illegally using content featuring her even after a contract between them was terminated. Kundra denied the allegations.
