The 70-year-old actor shared a picture of himself on social media, and wrote, “Returned home.”

He was taken to Chennai’s Kauvery Hospital by his wife, Latha Rajinikanth, and brother-in-law, Ravichandran, on Thursday, where he underwent a carotid artery revascularisation on the advice of his doctors.

“Mr Rajinikanth was admitted to Kauvery Hospital, Alwarpet, Chennai yesterday (October 28, 2021) following an episode of giddiness. He was thoroughly evaluated by an expert panel of doctors and was advised to undergo carotid artery revascularisation,” read the statement issued by the hospital.

The primary goal in carotid artery revascularisation is to prevent stroke in patients with carotid artery stenosis (narrowing of the large arteries on either side of the neck).

However, earlier, after his hospitalisation, Rajinikanth’s team had announced that the actor was only admitted for a routine check-up. His publicist Riaz K Ahmed had spoken to Silverscreen India and said that the actor was doing well. Dramatist and Rajinikanth’s relative, Y Gee Mahendran, who visited the actor at the hospital, had also announced that he was doing well.

Rajinikanth underwent the revascularisation procedure the following day.

Last year, the veteran actor was hospitalised after “severe fluctuations” in his blood pressure. He subsequently announced that he would not join politics due to his precarious health condition.

Recently, on October 25, Rajinikanth was conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honour in the field of cinema, at the 67th National Film Awards. He had attended the event in Delhi along with his family. In his acceptance speech, he dedicated the achievement to late filmmaker K Balachander, whom he referred to as his guru. Rajinikanth made his acting debut in 1975 with Balachander’s Apoora Raagangal. He also thanked his elder brother Sathyanarayana Rao Gaekwad and his friend Raj Bahadhur when accepting his award.

The actor is currently awaiting the release of his upcoming Tamil film directed by Siva, Annaatthe, which is slated to hit theatres on November 4. Before his hospitalisation, he had watched a special screening of the film on Thursday morning along with his family.
