Actor Rajinikanth, who was admitted to Kauvery Hospital in Chennai on Thursday night, successfully underwent a carotid artery revascularisation procedure on Friday and will be discharged in a few days, hospital authorities said in a statement.
“Mr Rajinikanth was admitted to Kauvery Hospital, Alwarpet, Chennai yesterday (October 28, 2021) following an episode of giddiness. He was thoroughly evaluated by an expert panel of doctors and was advised to undergo carotid artery revascularisation,” read the statement.
The primary goal in carotid artery revascularisation is to prevent stroke in patients with carotid artery stenosis (narrowing of the large arteries on either side of the neck).
Soon after he was hospitalised, Rajinikanth’s team had announced that the actor was only admitted for a routine check-up. His publicist Riaz K Ahmed had spoken to Silverscreen India and said that the actor was doing well.
Rajinikanth was brought to the hospital by his wife, Latha Rajinikanth, and brother-in-law, Ravichandran, at around 5 pm on Thursday, as per the Tamil news channel Puthiya Thalaimurai. Soon after, his daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth joined them at the hospital.
Addressing the press, dramatist and Rajinikanth’s relative, Y Gee Mahendran, who visited the actor at the hospital, had announced that Rajinikanth was doing well. “He is taking rest at the hospital. I am not sure of the treatment he is getting right now. But, he will be discharged by the time Annaatthe hits the screens,” he had said.
