Yo Yo Honey Singh, the Hindi rapper-singer, has been accused of domestic violence by his wife Shalini Talwar, ANI reported.
Talwar filed a plea under the ‘Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act’ in Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court, and the case was registered on Tuesday before Ms Tania Singh, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of the court, according to India Today.
Advocate Sandeep Kapur, Apoorva Pandey, and GG Kashyap, from the law firm Karanjawala & Co, appeared on behalf of Singh’s wife, the report stated. Further, the court issued a notice to Singh to file his reply by August 28.
The report stated that the court has also passed interim orders in favour of Talwar and restrained Singh from disposing off their jointly owned properties.
A report in The Times of India stated that, in her application, Talwar alleged that she was subjected to physical, verbal and mental abuse at the hands of Singh on numerous occasions. She also alleged that Singh used to earn around Rs 4 crore a month through his songs, royalties and performances and he got addicted to alcohol and drugs. She said he would often be paid in cash but would not disclose this to her. According to the TOI report, she has also alleged him of infidelity.
Singh and Talwar got married on January 23, 2011, after being in a relationship for close to two decades. The rapper however introduced her to his fans only in 2014 in an episode of the reality show India’s Raw Star.

From the end of May, Talwar has been sharing on Instagram about the alleged abuse. However, she has not directly mentioned the same on social media.
In one of her posts, alongside a picture, she wrote, “No matter which category of society we belong, rich or poor educated or uneducated, whether you are famous or not, the plight of a woman is same in the face of atrocities.”
Singh is yet to comment or give a statement regarding the ongoing case.
