Television Actor Divya Bhatnagar Dies of Covid-19

Divya Bhatnagar, the Hindi television actor, died of Covid-19 complications in Mumbai on Monday. She was 34.

She was admitted to the SevenHills hospital in Mumbai about a week ago, after testing positive for Covid-19. 

She was best known for playing the role of Gulabo in hit television series Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. Bhatnagar has also appeared in Tera Yaar Hoon Main, Sawaare Sabke Sapne Preeto, Udaan, Vish, Jeet Gayi Toh Piyaa Morre, Sethji, among others.

The actor’s brother Devashish Bhatnagar shared a heartfelt post for his sister on Instagram. He wrote that his sister was a fighter. “Tujhe bola thha na jeetke aana hai hamesha ki tarah? (Hadn’t I asked you to win and come back like always?),” he wrote. He also penned down the memories that they had made since childhood. 

Devashish also shared a selfie with the actor taken in the hospital a week ago and mentioned that the picture was three days prior to the day of the post and that she was still under ventilation. 

Actor Devoleena Bhattacharya of the television series Saath Nibhana Saathiya shared pictures with Bhatnagar and addressed that she was one of those who stood by a person when nobody bothered and that she was now in a better place after all that she had faced throughout her life. She also posted an emotional video calling out Bhatnagar’s husband Gagan Gabru for cheating on her, physically abusing and torturing her. Blaming Gabru for the stress Bhatnagar had gone through, Bhattacharya said that was why she couldn’t fight the disease.

The actor is survived by her mother, brother and husband.

The actor’s co-star from Tera Yaar Hoon Main Vibhuti Patil Thakur said that Bhatnagar was “resting in peace in his (father’s) arms” in a video which she shared on social media.
