Vijaykanth’s Health Improves, Gets Discharged from Hospital

Actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth was discharged on Friday from MIOT hospital after his health improved.

The leader of Desiye Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam was admitted towards the end of September after he tested positive for Covid-19. His wife, Premalatha was also admitted to the hospital after she too tested positive.

“Mr. Vijayakanth was under the constant care of the hospital members, his health was constantly tracked. In all of the recent tests, his health has shown improvement. He is being discharged today from MIOT,” said the statement released by MIOT.

Vijayakanth and his wife were earlier discharged from the hospital on October 2. The hospital had then released a statement stating, “Mr A Vijayakanth (Founder and General Secretary of DMDK) and Mrs Premalatha Vijayakanth tested positive for COVID-19. They were evaluated at MIOT Hospitals, Chennai and stayed on for observation. They have responded extremely well to the treatment and are getting discharged today.” However, on October 6, he was admitted again after his condition deteriorated.

Party members and fans of Vijayakanth took to social media to wish his speedy recovery.

Vijayakanth, fondly known as Captain, founded his party in 2005. In the 2006 elections, all the candidates of the party had lost, expect for Vijayakanth.

In the 2011 Assembly elections, the party had contested and won 29 seats. It went on to become the official opposition party with Vijayakanth as the leader. Later, it formed an alliance with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the 2014 elections, but failed to secure any seats. The party then formed an alliance with the All India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Bharatiya Janata party, in the 2019 elections but again did not win any seats.

The actor-politician is known for Vaidhegi Kaathirunthal, Sattam Oru Iruttarai, Amman Kovil Kizhakale among others.
