The case was initially being investigated by the Cyber Cell unit. According to the report, Roshan’s lawyer Gunjan Mangla wrote a letter to the Mumbai Police Commissioner seeking a transfer of the case and a detailed investigation into the matter.

Ranaut, on Monday, tweeted about the transfer of the case to the Crime Intelligence Unit.

How did the legal tussle begin?

In an interview with Pinkvilla in 2016, Ranaut had referred to Roshan as an “ex” who did  “silly things” for attention, when she was asked about whether Roshan was the reason for her being ousted from Aashiqui 3. “I don’t know why exes do silly things to get your attention. For me that chapter is over and I don’t dig graves,” she had said.

In response, Roshan had tweeted a reply on the same day.

Following this, Roshan sent a legal notice to Ranaut in March, 2016 demanding an apology. Ranaut countered this with a legal notice the same month. In May, 2016 Roshan lodged an FIR at the Cyber Crime branch against “unidentifiable individuals” for impersonation under sections of Indian Penal Code and the IT Act for which he also submitted his laptop and his phone in the Crime Branch.

Roshan had alleged that someone impersonating him had sent emails to Ranaut. He stated that he had received over a thousand emails from Ranaut’s email ID in 2013 and 2014. He also complained that Ranaut’s claim of exchanging emails with him was from a fake ID. Ranaut, meanwhile, alleged that Roshan had created a separate email ID to communicate with her during the time so that it wouldn’t hamper in his then ongoing divorce proceedings.

According to the Times Now report, in his legal notice, Roshan had stated that Ranaut suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome, for which the actor was criticised by parents of children suffering from the syndrome. The actor then registered a complaint, stating all of this had been taking a mental toll on him and had been affecting his family as well.

The case filed by Roshan was later closed by the Cyber Cell in October, 2016 and there has been no legal development until now.

In April, 2017, Roshan filed a complaint against Ranaut in the Cyber Crime Police Station for “immense harassment and stalking”.
