Jimmy Shergill, the actor who is mostly seen in Hindi and Punjabi films, National Award-winning director Eeshwar Niwas, and 35 others were booked on Wednesday for flouting Covid-19 safety norms while shooting in Punjab, ANI reported.
Shergill and his crew were shooting for the upcoming SonyLiv web series, Your Honour, when the Ludhiana Police lodged a First Information Report against the entire crew for defying lockdown rules imposed due to the surge in Covid-19 cases. The Punjab government had issued new guidelines to curb the spread of the virus and has imposed lockdown from 6 pm to 5 am across the state.
“The shooting went on even after 8 pm, two hours after the lockdown was in force. When the police were notified about the same, they reached the spot and found more people at the location of the shoot. A case was later filed against Jimmy and other people,” Varyam Singh, Ludhiana’s Assistant Commissioner of Police, said.
“He [Shergill] only had permission to shoot the film till 8 pm. A case of violating Covid-19 guidelines has been registered against him,” Singh said.
According to The Times of India, Shergill and 150 crew members were shooting at Arya Senior Secondary School in Ludhiana. Rakesh Agarwal, Ludhiana Police Commissioner, had granted permission to the team to shoot in the premises, the school authorities said.

“We allowed the crew to shoot for the series after they got permission from the commissioner of police. The production team had sought permission for 10 days between April 23 and May 2 and were shooting at different places on the campus. We told them to abide by the Covid-19 protocol and shooting was on in the play ground, which has a capacity for 800 people. Our school was established in 1849 and has an old colonial structure. We don’t charge anything from anyone who uses the premises for shooting. Many movies have been filmed here,” said school principal Rajinder Kumar.
Your Honor is an action thriller drama series in which Shergill plays a judge whose son gets involved in a hit and run case.
