Yesterday we’d reported that DD National was re-telecasting Ramayan, the popular 80s mythological series. In the wake of a 21-day lockdown in the nation announced by Prime Minister Modi, the national broadcaster is unable to broadcast new content.
Revisiting old content, particularly from the 80s and 90s, before the advent of too many popular cable television channels, when the best of Indian minds worked for Doordarshan seems a good strategy. The channel will re-run Mahabharat created by Baldev Raj Chopra, first aired in 1998, Rajit Kapoor starrer Byomkesh Bakshi directed by Basu Chatterjee, and Shah Rukh Khan starrer Circus, directed by Kundan Shah and Aziz Mirza which first aired in 1989.

Meanwhile Indian Information & Broadcasting Minister, Prakash Javadekar has come under fire for hyping up the Ramayan re-telecast, even as images of hundreds of thousands of migrant workers, stranded without transport, walking on highways are doing the rounds in news. Nero and Marie Antoinette are trending on Twitter.

Prakash Javadekar has deleted the tweet with his photo. He’d said, “I am watching Ramayana, are you?”
Prakash Javadekar seems to have deleted this tweet.
He must have received an angry call from Modi – “Yaar, I said people must be provided with adequate cereals. CEREALS. Not serials.” #Ramayan pic.twitter.com/3WsHeKT2wQ— Ramesh Srivats (@rameshsrivats) March 28, 2020
