Romeo Juliet Movie Review Moviecrow

The basic premise of debutant Lakshman has some meatiness. The unapologetic and selfish nature of the heroine does sound promising on paper. But the circumstances and the way the characters behave haphazardly would leave you cold. There is not a semblance of believability in the way the events unfold. The jokes aren’t really funny barring a few. The love or the lack of it depicted by Hansika’s character is highly self centered. While that is perfectly fine and in tune with her character throughout the film, she actually behaves no differently in the climax when we are supposed to believe otherwise. It is just that she realizes there are other things more important than money. But even here she is only bothered about how these other things impact her and not for a second she has thoughts about her Romeo. The film might have worked better had it focused more on the ‘Taming of the Shrew’ scenario. But alas with a title like ‘Romeo Juliet’ you know that is not going to happen.
