Devi Sri Prasad met the press yesterday at his studio, after a gap of nearly a year. The musician, who was busy working on Telugu films and performing across the globe, is now back in Chennai to compose for Vijay’s Puli.
As we waited with a small group of reporters for Devi Sri Prasad to arrive, we realised he was in the room next door discussing songs with his assistants. As his conversation stretched on, we were invited to tour his composing room.
A life-size portrait of Ilaiyaraaja stared at us as we entered. One of the walls bore popular quotes on music.
A large piano enjoyed pride of place, and a couple of string instruments shone in the brightly lit room.
And then, Devi Sri Prasad finally appeared. He looked surprisingly comfortable in his leather jacket, given how warm the studio was.
Most of the interaction was about Vijay’s Puli. As Devi Sri Prasad continued to gush about the movie, we kept our Twitter followers abreast of the developments:
We knew about this. But he just had to say it again. Because it’s that special to him.
#Puli is a very grand film. The songs will be as grand as the film, says @ThisIsDSP#live@Vijay_cjv

Vijay would be seen in a different look, he said. When asked if his performance would ‘dwarf the others’, uncomfortable laughter was his response.
#Puli is cleverly scripted. I love Chimu Deven’s imagination, says @ThisIsDSP#live

We are still not sure whether Vijay and Shruti would sing in Puli. Would you be surprised if they didn’t?
.@shrutihaasan is a talented singer. I’m not sure if she would sing in #Puli. But you may expect, says @ThisIsDSP #live @ShrutiHaasan_FC

It’s too early to say if #Vijay would sing in #Puli. But we would never know, says @ThisIsDSP #live — Silverscreen.in (@silverscreenin) January 8, 2015
We’ve already recorded a couple of songs for #Puli. And one song has been filmed, says @ThisIsDSP #Vijay

#Puli will have six songs, says @ThisIsDSP#Vijay#live — Silverscreen.in (@silverscreenin) January 8, 2015
Devi Sri Prasad also knows how to please fans of both the stars. Some strategy!
I am feeling blessed. I did an #Ajith film (#Veeram) last year & now I have got a chance to do a #Vijay film again, says @ThisIsDSP#live — Silverscreen.in (@silverscreenin) January 8, 2015
We could see him making a conscious effort to not blurt out any information about Puli. He still managed to talk about the film for an hour.
#Puli is the most apt title for #Vijay‘s film. I am so glad that the title itself has become a rage, says @ThisIsDSP#live
