Actor GV Prakash Kumar, last seen in director Sasi’s Sivappu Manjal Pachai, is all set for the release of his next, 100% Kadhal. The actor, who has a bunch of films on hand, flew down from the US after completing his portion of Ricky Burchell’s Trap City, starring Brandon T Jackson, for the press meet organised in connection with the release of the much-delayed 100% Kadhal.
“100% Kadhal is a family entertainer, and isn’t just meant for the youth. It’s bound to bring back memories of what you shared during college. I play the role of Balu, a nerd, while my co-star Shalini Pandey plays Mahalakshmi. It is a remake of the Telugu hit 100% Love, starring Naga Chaitanya and Tamannaah Bhatia, but there are some variations, especially when it comes to humour. Since he was part of the original too, director Chandramouli sir has done justice to the remake.”

Beginning from Naachiyaar and until his latest release Sivappu Manjal Pachai, Prakash has been taking up roles that require him to move away from his comfort zone. Will he get back to playing a suave character? Prakash says that he is being approached to play only roles that require him to be unlike his real self. “I love simplicity. Essaying a character who the audience can connect to has always been my goal. But, somehow, directors feel I suit the “pullaingo” kind of character and narrate such scripts to me. But, even though the base is the same, I do bring in variations.” He goes on to add: “Balu from 100% Kadhal, and my role in Ayngaran will not be stereotypical.”
The actor, who first made a name as a composer, has projects to keep him busy in both his areas of talent. “People always ask me how I find time. It’s not about finding the time, it’s about making it. I make time for everything, and I don’t postpone work. So, it isn’t as hard as it seems. Also, I’m ‘producer-friendly’ and straightforward. I chalk out schedules suitable for the producer and am frank with them. And, maybe, the boy-next-door look I sport is helpful in getting me films. ”

In Ravi Arasu’s Ayngaran, scheduled to release by the end of November, he plays a young scientist. In the Hollywood musical Trap City, he plays a surgeon. Prakash also teams up with Vasanthabalan, the director who gave him a break as composer with Veyil, for Jail. The Telugu version of Sivappu Manjal Pachai is to release during Deepavali, and he has also signed up to act in the remake of a Malayalam film.
As composer, Prakash has signed Sudha Kongara’s Soorarai Pottru, which has five songs, Vetrimaran’s Asuran, Vasanthabalan’s Jail and AL Vijay’s multilingual Thalaivi. Is he being very choosy as a composer? “I do music for directors who respect me. I prefer quality over quantity,” he says.
The press meet saw actor-director RV Udhayakumar, Rekha, editor MU Kasi Vishwanathan, and co-producer Raj Patel share the stage with Prakash and director Chandramouli. The trailer and songs were also screened.
100% Kadhal stars Nasser, Thambi Ramaiah, Appukutty, Rekha, RV Udhayakumar, Jayachitra and Thalaivasal Vijay. Directed by Chandramouli, under the banner of Sukumar’s Creative Cinemas NY and NJ Entertainment, the movie is slated for release on October 4.
