In a  DC report, the director spoke about the film and said that even cinema’s roots could be traced to the art form. “Koothu is the base for all kinds of performing arts. Cinema evolved from Koothu art… In olden days Koothu was performed regularly in all the villages, but in the current scenario it is on the verge of extinction,” he said.

He hopes that the film will help revive Theru Koothu. “My film is a humble effort to revive the dying art form. The film will explore the life of one such artiste.” The shoot for the film is currently underway in Velliangudi near Chidambaram where a huge set resembling Koothu Thiruvizha has been erected.

RS Karthik of Peechaangai fame plays the protagonist in the movie. “Karthik has given a wonderful performance… Real life people whom I have met have inspired the characters in the film,” said the director. Manishajith plays the female lead in the movie. The supporting cast includes Marimuthu, Shivashankar Master, Nandita Jennifer and Thavasi.

RS Karthik had said in an interview to The Hindu that the movie was a female-oriented one, and he had only a supporting role. He also spoke about the general outline of the story. “It is a female-oriented subject in which I play a Koothu dancer, who visits the heroine’s town for a Thiruvizha. It is set in the 80s and is quite different.”

The movie is yet to be titled.
