The actor was speaking at a press conference on his 54th birthday yesterday, when he made the announcement. “I have always loved Forrest Gump as a script. It is a wonderful, life-affirming story. It is a feel-good film. It is a film for the whole family,” he was quoted as saying by Cinema Express. The last remake to feature Khan was the 2008 film Ghajini.

While confirming that his character was that of a Sikh, the actor said that he would sport a turban for “some part of the film.” He will also have to go in for a physical transformation. “I will be losing 20 kg for the film, since I have to be lean and slim. The training will take six months.”

Forrest Gump, directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks, won six Oscars, including best actor, best director, adapted screenplay, editing and visual effects.

Aamir Khan was last seen in Vijay Krishna Acharya’s Thugs of Hindostan, the big-budget extravaganza featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Sheikh. The film produced by YashRaj Films tanked at the box office, but recently released in China.
