Young actors Alia Bhatt and Siddharth Malhotra will play the lead roles in the third instalment of the Aashiqui franchise.
Alia and Siddharth have previously co-starred in Karan Johar’s Student of The Year and Shakun Batra’s Kapoor & Sons. Producer Mukesh Bhatt told PTI that the duo were “perfect for the roles”. “Yes, it is true. We have signed Sidharth and Alia for the film. They completely fit the role. When we make films we look for the perfect casting. They both fit the bill,” Bhatt said.
Aashiqui, the first part of the romantic-musical franchise, was released in 1990. Starring Anu Aggarwal and Rahul Roy, the film went on to become one of the biggest hits of the time.
The second instalment of the franchise, Aashiqui 2, was released in 2013. Directed by Mohit Suri, the film had Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur in the lead roles. Aashiqui 2 was also a success.
Reportedly, Aashiqui 3 will be directed by Suri.
