In 1980, Harikrishna drove around his father NT Rama Rao’s Chaitanya Ratham, a customised Chevrolet van, in the nine-month campaign during the inception of the TDP and was also made State Transport Minister when NTR became Chief Minister.
He was the fourth son of NT Rama Rao and was a Rajya Sabha member between 2008 and 2013. His sons Kalyan Ram and Junior NTR are actors, while his eldest son, Nandamuri Janakiram was killed in a road accident in 2014 in the same district.
Harikrishna made his debut in films as a child artiste in Krishnavataram in 1964 and was seen in guest roles in films such as Ram Rahim and Daana Veera Sura Karna. He then took a break from films and entered politics. He returned to films in 1998 with a cameo in Mohan Babu-starrer Sriramulayya.
