Actor Dhanush will make his directorial debut with veteran actor Rajkiran. The film was launched earlier today, and has been titled ‘Power Paandi’. Dhanush released the first look of the project through his official Twitter account.

Actors Prasanna and Chaaya Singh have been roped in to essay major roles in the movie. Reports indicate that Actor Prasanna plays Raj Kiran’s son. A source from the team told ToI, “It will be a fun and adventurous film. Prasanna has been roped in to play Rajkiran’s son. He has an offbeat role, too. The rest of the cast is yet to be finalised.”
Cinematographer Velraj has been roped into the project. Velraj has a long history with actor Dhanush. He has handled the camera in a number of Dhanush’s movies including Polladhavan, Aadukalam etc. He is also working with the actor in his current project, Vada Chennai. Velraj made his directorial debut with the actor in Velaiyilla Pattathari, produced by Wunderbar Studios.
Power Paandi will be produced under Dhanush’s banner, Wunderbar films. The shooting of the film is scheduled to start today in Chennai.
Editor GK Prasanna, who worked with Dhanush in Maari, has been signed on as the editor of this project. Sean Roldan will compose the music, while Stunt Silva will choreograph the film’s sequences. National Award winning Costume Designer Poornima will design the costumes, while Dhanush, and his father Kasthuri Raja will write the songs for the film.
The actor over the years has been very vocal about his desire to venture into direction . He has even claimed that he was more passionate about direction that acting. Interestingly, Dhanush’s father, Kasthuri Raja also made his directorial debut with Raj Kiran in En Rasavil Manasile in 1991. This year also marks Rajkiran’s 25th year in the industry.

Meanwhile, Dhanush has a lot going on for him on screen as well. With one projected slated for a release and two other projects in the pipeline, the actor has a packed year ahead. Thodari with Keerthi Suresh is expected to release this month and Vetrimaaran has confirmed that Vada Chennai has completed it’s first leg of shooting. The actor is also working on a Gautham Vasudev Menonn’s film titled Enai Nokki Payum Thotta.
The actor will also be making his Hollywood debut soon. Titled “The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir Who Got Trapped In An Ikea Cupboard”, he will be seen alongside Hollywood actress Uma Thurman. The actor confirmed in an interview that the shooting will start early next year.
