Actor Karunakaran Asks Vijay To Rein In Abusive Fans

at Uppu Karuvadu Press Meet

Karunakaran has requested actor Vijay to regulate his fan base. Through a series of tweets from his official account, Karunakaran asked actor Vijay why he’s never had any ‘kutti kadhai’ for his fans. Vijay usually narrates short ‘stories’ at promotional events to convey a moral. While the actor has used these tales to slam political leadership and a myriad other issues, he is yet to say something about the unrestrained social media abuse that some Vijay fans indulge in. At the Sarkar audio launch, Vijay’s ‘kutty kadhai’ revolved around bribery.

Quite predictably, this opinion did not sit well with the fans of actor Vijay, some of whom used abusive and offensive language against Karunakaran. Some fans hinted that Karunakaran’s past association with actor Ajith Kumar was to be blamed for his opinion. Fans of Ajith, meanwhile, celebrated Karunakaran’s opinion.

Vijay has been repeatedly questioned about his silence on the social media abuse perpetrated by some of his followers. In 2017, a female journalist was targeted by the actor’s fans when she posted a criticism of his film, Sura. At the time, an FIR was registered against two men, believed to be fans of the actor. Vijay did not immediately intervene, despite repeated requests from the journalist and other celebrities. Much later he issued a press release asking fans to not abuse women.

Karunakaran, who made his debut in the Sundar C directorial Kalakalappu, became popular for his roles in films like Soodhu Kavvum (2013) and Yaamirukka Bayamey (2014). The actor also famously starred alongside Rajinikanth in the KS Ravikumar-directed Lingaa (2014). Currently, he has a slew of films coming up including RK Nagar, Kalavu and a Sivarkarthikeyan film.

Actor Vijay’s Sarkar, meanwhile, had a grand audio launch on Tuesday in which the actor made some veiled political commentary, hinting at the lack of good leadership. He has since received flak for his comments from politicians like Pon Radhakrishnan and RB Udhayakumar.
