The actor was one of the many Malayalam artists to receive the Golden Visa from the UAE government in Dubai recently. In an interaction with media outlet Dubai Vartha, the actor said “I was away from films for some time but I am ready now. I will be active in cinema but will only take up selective projects and good films.”

Noting that she has worked with Anthikad for four films– Achuvinte Amma, Rasathanthram, Vinodayathra, Innathe Chintha Vishayam— Meera said that she is happy and blessed to collaborate with him for the fifth time. “The upcoming film won’t be similar to my previous films like Rasathanthram or Achuvinte Amma. Those were different subjects and different characters. And I have a good character in the new film as well. I hope this will be a good new beginning for me and will get good films and roles in the coming days.”

It may be noted that in April, this year, Anthikad announced that he will be directing a film with Jayaram as the hero and Meera Jasmine as the heroine. Produced by Central Pictures, the film’s script is written by Iqbal Kuttipuram. Besides, the film will also feature actor Devika Sanjay who played Teenamol in the Fahadh Faasil -starrer Njan Prakashan, the 2018 satirical comedy film also directed by Anthikad.

Speaking about the growth of Malayalam cinema, Jasmine said, “Content is the king and because of that irrespective of age and gender, artists get to do good roles and venture into other platforms. That apart, the Malayalam film industry is representing Indian cinema and even Bollywood is taking Malayalam cinema as an example.”

She added that the credit also goes to the audience for bringing Malayalam cinema to this stage. “The audience is intelligent and we can’t satisfy the Malayali audience with average material. So creators have to come up with quality content accordingly,” she said.

The actor made her acting debut with the Malayalam film Soothradharan (2001) directed by the ace filmmaker AK Lohithadas. Speaking about the late director, Jasmine said that his absence has affected her and many other artists in the Malayalam film industry including stalwarts like Mohanlal, Mammootty and Manju Warrier. She also stated that the foundation for Malayalam cinema today was laid by legendary filmmakers like Padmarajan and Lohithadas.

Jasmine was last seen in a cameo role in Kalidas Jayaram-starrer Poomaram in 2018. Before that, she appeared in the 2016 Malayalam film 10 Kalpanakal.
