Adipurush: Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, Kriti Sanon-Starrer to Release in January 2023

The makers of Prabhas’ upcoming film Adiprurush took to social media on Tuesday and announced the film’s new release date on the occasion of Maha Shivratri. Director Om Raut shared that the film will be out in theatres worldwide in 3D on January 12, 2023.

Earlier scheduled for release in August 2022, the Adipurush team postponed the film to give Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha a solo release in theatres. When announcing their new release date, the makers of the Khan-starrer said in a statement, “We would like to thank Mr Bhushan Kumar, T Series, Om Raut, and the entire team of Adipurush from the bottom of our hearts. We would like to thank them for being so helpful and understanding, and for shifting the release date of their much-awaited, Adipurush, starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, so that Laal Singh Chaddha can come on August 11.”

Talking to Pinkvilla about the new release plan for Adipurush, an unnamed source said that the film’s makers had decided to block the Sankranti 2023 date as the festival period will bring in more Telugu and Tamil audiences, while it has also historically been fruitful in the Hindi market. Further, no major Hindi, Tamil or Telugu film has so far been officially announced for a release that weekend, making Adipurush the first one to reserve the coveted festive spot. The source also revealed that the film is currently in the post-production stage.

Adipurush is an action drama based on the Sanskrit epic Ramayana. The film’s posters revealed that Prabhas stars as the titular Adipurush, based on Ram, while Saif Ali Khan plays Lankesh, the antagonist based on Ravana, and Sanon essays the role of Sita.

The film marks the third collaboration of Prabhas and Bhushan Kumar, after Saaho and Radhe Shyam.

While Adipurush is Raut’s first outing with Prabhas, the director has previously worked with Khan on Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, the 2020 Hindi historical action film.
