Comedian Alwa Vasu is no more. The actor was discharged from a private hospital in Madurai earlier this week, after efforts to cure his liver ailments did not produce results. Vasu, who has appeared in over 900 movies, was taken home and a social media campaign on behalf of him was started asking his fans to pray for him.
Even the Nadigar Sangam got involved, and started a fund raising effort so that further medical help could be provided. But, the treatment did not improve his condition and the actor passed away at around 10:15 PM at his home in Madurai on Thursday.

Vasu was diagnosed with liver disease a year ago, and since then, his health drastically declined. He lost a significant amount of weight, and was said to be struggling to meet his professional commitments. A former assistant of the late Manivannan, he was often seen onscreen in comic roles with actors such as Rajinikanth and Sathyaraj. He also collaborated with comic actors Vadivelu and Goundamani.
He leaves behind a wife, Amutha, and daughter, Krishna Jayanthika.
Meanwhile, the Nadigar Sangam has pledged to support to Vasu’s family, and described the actor a soft, sensitive man who helped struggling actors.
Actor Vishal, president of TFPC, has donated Rs 1 lakh to Vasu’s family from his Devi trust.
