Amala Akkineni’s Bilingual Film Resumes Shoot After Six-month Halt

Amala Akkineni, who was last seen in Karwaan along with Dulquer Salmaan and Irrfan Khan, has resumed shooting for a bilingual film where she plays the role of Sharwanand’s mother.

Shooting had been halted for nearly six months due to the Covid-19 related lockdown. Shooting resumed last week. This film mark her re-entry into Tamil films after almost two decades.

Taking to her social media account recently, the Manam actor wrote: “It’s been heartwarming playing amma to Sharwanand. Working in a Tamil / Telugu bilingual after many years.” Amala’s last Tamil film was Karpoora Mullai, which released in 1991.

The yet-to-be-titled film will see Ritu Varma in the lead role. Reports state that Ravi Raghavendra will be seen playing Amala’s husband in the project which also stars Nasser, Sathish, and Ramesh Thilak. While Jakes Bejoy is composing the music, Sujith Sarang and Srijith Sarang will handle the cinematography and editing respectively. Amala reportedly nodded to this role as her character plays a crucial part in the protagonist’s life.

Directed by debutant Shree Karthick and produced by Dream Warrior Pictures, this will be Sharwanand’s debut Tamil film. On October 1, the actor posted a photo on social media stating that the shoot had resumed after a brief halt. The final schedule is ongoing in Chennai and is expected to wrap up soon.

Akineni recently forayed into the digital medium with her role in High Priestess, a Zee5 original series. Directed by Pushpa Ignatius, the series showcased Amala as a psychic and a tarot card reader. She was also recently seen in a cameo role in Akkineni’s family-drama film Manam. Amala is currently the head of Annapurna International School of Film & Media. She is also a hardcore animal activist and is member of several organisations.
