The film created a buzz when the first-look poster released in September last year, featuring the actor in an anguished look and in fright because of something. Reports have said that the director was expecting a UA certificate from the censor board but the film was high on violent scenes so the board decided that an A certificate would be appropriate.
Rathna Kumar earlier told Silvercsreen that the film is a dark comedy. “It has twists and turns that will keep the audience enthralled. The film deals with the boundaries we set for ourselves, and what happens when they are crossed.”

A press release said that the film looks at the culture of complementary services, products and free data that spoils this generation. “Aadai will depict these realities. The role that Amala Paul is essaying demands a lot of physical and mental strength… this role will be a game-changer in her career.”
Amala also said, “Aadai is not a regular script… the intricacies of my character Kaamini are already giving me jitters.”
She started filming for the movie in November and wrapped up shoot by February 2019. She plays the lead with Bijili Ramesh, Vivek Prasanna and Sarithran in important roles. The film has music by Pradeep Kumar, cinematography by Vijay Karthik Kanna and editing by Shafique Mohammed Ali. V Studios are the producers of the movie.
Meanwhile, Amala Paul will next be seen in Adho Andha Paravai Pola, an action-adventure thriller directed by Vinoth KR. She also has the Malayalam films Aadujeevitham, Parannu Parannu, and Cadaver, which she will also be producing.
